GOD-HONORING THANKSGIVING EXERCISES
We are ever prone to focus on the gifts instead of the GIVER when we pause to give thanks. Here are a few ways you can turn Thanksgiving into something that points to the beauty and wonder of the God who gives us all things to enjoy!
1. Write out an attribute of God and a Scripture verse that speaks of it on a 3X5 card for each person. Put them on the center of their plate. When you sit down to eat, give them a moment to read and think about it, then have each one share briefly why they are thankful for this truth about God. End by offering sentence prayers of thanksgiving for WHO HE IS.
2. Have each person write on a 3 X 5 card the two things they are most thankful for this year. When they share, ask them to tell what these things have taught them about the character or ways of God. End the time with a period of thanksgiving for WHO GOD IS, in light of these things He has done this year.
3. Have each person write on a 3 X 5 card the one thing in creation that gives them the greatest joy. When they share, ask them what this one thing reveals to them about God. Spend time thanking Him for these things, allowing each person to offer their own short prayer.
4. If you know each other well, put all the names in a basket and have each person draw one. Then have them share how they have seen God work in the person whose name they drew, this year. End with a time of thanksgiving and praise to God for these things.
