Pause

Still your soul as you take a few breaths. Quiet your mind as you gather your thoughts. Rest your body...slow it all down.
Welcome God, who delights to have this time with you.

“The heavens are telling of the glory of God; and their expanse is declaring the work of his hands. Day to day pours forth speech, and night to night reveals knowledge.” Psalm 19:1-2

Reflect on the reality that God loves to reveal Himself through the world He has made.
Offer a grateful heart.

Ponder

“For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him.”

Colossians 1:16

In the 1960s, scientists set out to explore why our world is made of something instead of nothing. What is it, they asked, that gives geese and prairie grass and mountains and seas a chance to be.

Some referred to the unseen building block they were looking for as the “God particle.” Physicists were ecstatic when they found it decades later, declaring that it opened up whole new worlds for them to explore.

If plotting theories about the mysteries of mass and matter captivates physicists, imagine what it would be like to meet the Mind behind it all? His name is Jesus, the Creator through whom all things were made (John 1:3).

While the biblical details are sparse, we know that the Father spoke, the Spirit moved, and the Son brought creation into being.

But have you ever thought about the why of creation?
Why did God create the world?

I once asked a group of college students, and a young man responded boldly: "For the fun of it.” Though taken aback, I realized he was onto something.

Paul wrote that all things were created through and for Jesus (Colossians 1:16). Could this be what he meant? That God created the world for his own joy?

Think about our own moments of creative happiness.

An artist’s pleasure in a painting...a gardener’s satisfaction in flourishing blooms, a writer’s gratification at a well-written page...a baker’s fulfillment in the aroma of bread.

If we feel happy with our small creations, imagine the joy of Jesus — the Maker of galaxies.

Every day we get to look around and share in God’s holy delight over this world. But creation is like a first course, only whetting our appetites for the main meal.

Nature’s vast array is but a reflection of the glory that emanates from the exalted Christ. Everything that God has made is meant to astound us with the wonder of who He is.

The heavens with their billions of stars declare the Creator’s splendor.

Stormy winds blast with terrifying force, reminding us of His omnipotence.

Oceans stretch beyond our sight, echoing His vastness.

Our universe, in all its breathtaking beauty, reminds us that the greatest marvel is not in creation itself, but in the One who created it all.

Pray

What have you seen of the glory of God in creation?
Do you find yourself taking the time to listen the language of his works?

Read this passage as a praise to the Creator.

“Worthy are You, our Lord and our God, to receive glory and honor and power; for You created all things, and because of Your will they existed, and were created.”

Revelation 4:11

Ponder the wonder that the greatest marvel to come is to see Jesus, the Creator, himself. Worship him and write a prayer of response.

Practice

Take a moment today to observe something God has made.
Consider what Jesus might want you to see or know about Himself from it.
Let creation become a call to worship.
