DAY TWO - SON OF MAN
Pause
Matthew 16:15
In the stillness, trust the gentle whisper of God who is with you. Hear Him asking you, Who do you say I am?
Wait before Him. Answer slowly… authentically. Breathe in the grace of a God who longs for you to know Him — who cares what you think of Him.
Ponder
Mark 13:26–27
We were twenty-somethings, married young and cloistered in comfort within our sphere of family, friends, and church. Dreaming of adventure, we set out to pioneer ministry in a tiny Eskimo village.
The day was gray as we climbed out of the bush plane. The gravel landing strip was short, and our cabin small. Brown-skinned children carried our bags, crowding into our space as if it were their own.
For weeks — maybe months — we were displaced by the unfamiliar. We were no longer sure who we were.
Identity shapes how we relate to the world — and to ourselves. What did identity mean for Jesus?
The title Jesus chose more than any other — Son of Man — was profoundly humble.
The Almighty grew up in obscurity. The Lord of lords walked dusty roads where no one knew His name. The God who commands seas embraced insignificance.
To those around Him, Son of Man simply meant human being. No glory. No divine imprint.
And yet…
When Pilate demanded a confession, Jesus quietly sealed His fate and fearlessly declared His destiny:
Matthew 26:64
The Son of Man who had no place to lay His head will one day judge the world.
Every eye will behold Him. Every heart will understand. Every tongue will answer the question:
Who do you say that I am?
Pray
John 1:14
Reflect on the humility of Jesus — the glory He set aside to become one of us.
Offer a prayer of gratitude and worship. Ask the Spirit to deepen your understanding of the Son of Man.
Practice
Place the question Who do you say that I am? somewhere you will see it today.
Each time you notice it, pause and answer honestly. Later, write a single sentence that names who Jesus is to you.
