Day Five · Mystery

Pause

Then Christ will make His home in your hearts
as you trust in Him.

—Ephesians 3:17

Let the weights and worries of today
fade in the quiet of this moment.
Relax your shoulders.
Close your eyes.
Breathe deeply.

Receive God’s tender care.
The One who reigns in glory
has made His home in you.

Bask in the wonder of this.

Ponder

Prefer to listen? Take a quiet moment and press play below.

Mystery is woven throughout God’s story,
but beneath it all
is a wonder He kept hidden
for ages and generations.

Hidden--
from angels and humans…
even priests and prophets.

What is this mystery?

Consider these words from Scripture:

… the mystery that has been kept hidden
for ages and generations,
but is now disclosed to the Lord’s people.
To them God has chosen to make known
among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery,
which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.
He is the one we proclaim, admonishing
and teaching everyone with all wisdom,
so that we may present everyone
fully mature in Christ.
Colossians 1:26–28

With breathtaking humility,
the God of the universe--
crucified, risen, and reigning--
has drawn near,

not only to be with us,
but to dwell within us,
taking up residence
in fragile hearts.

Read the passage again, looking for
a word,
a phrase,
an image
that moves your heart.

Hold it gently, quietly,
soaking in the wonder.

Pray

This mystery unfolds daily
in the ordinariness
of our lives.

Christ’s presence within awakens hope,
anchoring us in His glory--
the glory of all that He is,
and the glory He is forming in us.

Jesus,
You have made Your home in me.
This is a mystery
I can hardly receive
or explain.

Teach me to live in the wonder,
to listen for Your voice,
to follow Your leading,
to embrace Your presence,
my hope of glory.

Amen.

Practicing Worship

One day you will see Christ as He is—in glory--
and be made like Him.

Even now,
His presence within you
is the beginning of that glory.

Contemplate this mystery
in Christ’s presence for a few moments.

If your mind wanders,
breathe in slowly, saying:
Christ in me…
Breathe out gently, saying:
Hope of glory.

Worship the One
who reigns in glory
and has made His home in you.

When you are ready,
