Day Four · Teacher
Pause
Students are not greater than their teacher.
But the student who is fully trained
will become like the teacher.
Luke 6:40
Take a few moments to gather your thoughts.
Envision putting them in a file folder.
As you close the folder for later,
take a deep breath and be present.
Here and now.
See yourself as a learner,
listening...
eager...
your mind and heart opened wide.

WWJD?
the acronym broadcast on t-shirts,
tattooed on arms and ankles--
a persistent reminder to ask ourselves:
What would Jesus do?
But as our Teacher,
Jesus offers something more profound--
that we might become like Him
from the inside out.
for the good of those who love God
and are called according to his purpose for them.
For God knew his people in advance,
and he chose them to become like his Son,
so that his Son would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.
And having chosen them, he called them to come to him.
And having called them, he gave them right standing with himself.
And having given them right standing,
he gave them his glory.
—Romans 8:28–30
Chosen.
Called.
Given God’s own glory.
How do we even process such things?
Read the passage again, waiting for the Spirit to reveal--
a word,
a phrase,
or an image
that moves you.
What do you notice about the Teacher--
how He comes near, how He speaks,
how He forms His students?
What does this show you about Jesus,
the One who calls you to become like Him?
What does it mean to sit at His feet
and learn from His presence?
...Your eyes will behold your Teacher.
Your ears will hear a word behind you, “This is the way, walk in it,”
whenever you turn to the right or to the left.
Isaiah 30:20–21
Where do you feel a yearning
to sit at Jesus’ feet
and let Him teach you?
Wait...listen...let Him speak.
Pray
Learning from Jesus is more
than doing what we think
He might do.
It is staying close enough
to hear His whisper,
and experience the peace of His guiding Presence.
Jesus,
I often try so hard
to do the right thing,
to act like I think You would act.
I need more.
Show me your ways,
give me your heart.
Teach me how to sit at your feet,
and let you train me.
I long to be your student today.
Amen.
Practicing Worship
To be fully trained by Jesus,
means to become like Him.
It means to sit at His feet,
learning... listening...
loving and being loved.
Sit in the wonder of this.
Offer Him your hungry heart.
Worship Jesus, the Teacher.
When you are ready,
