Day Two · Bridegroom

Pause

Stop and listen to the sounds around you.

What do you hear?
How often do you notice these sounds?

Let your soul listen now.

The voice of the Bridegroom is gentle.
Can you quiet the noise
within and without
to hear Him?

Posture your heart in silent readiness.

Ponder

Prefer to listen? Take a quiet moment and press play below.

The Spirit and the bride say, “Come.”
Let anyone who hears this say, “Come.”
— Revelation 22:17

Maranatha. Come Lord Jesus--
the yearning cry of His bride.

Then I heard again what sounded like the shout of a vast crowd
or the roar of mighty ocean waves or the crash of loud thunder:
“Praise the Lord!
For the Lord our God, the Almighty, reigns.
Let us be glad and rejoice,
and let us give honor to him.
For the time has come for the wedding feast of the Lamb,
and his bride has prepared herself.
She has been given the finest of pure white linen to wear.”
For the fine linen represents the good deeds of God’s holy people.
And the angel said to me, “Write this:
Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding feast of the Lamb.”
And he added, “These are true words that come from God.”
Revelation 19:6–9

What do you notice about the Bridegroom’s presence--
the sounds and sights,
that set the stage?

When you read of the Bride,
what comforts you?
Unsettles you?

Read the passage again, looking for
a word,
an image,
or a phrase
that draws you into the story.

Quietly reflect on what God has shown you.

Ponder the Lamb who came
to give His life for His bride...
And the Bridegroom who will come again
to make her His own.

Pray

Of all the metaphors
God provides to help us know His nature,
this one—Bridegroom—unveils the depth of love
that permeates His heart,
and fuels His deeds.

Jesus-Bridegroom,
You are worthy of such love.

As I sit here at Your feet,
my heart yearns for You.

I’ve tasted Your goodness, Your kindness,
Your infinite love...
But it isn’t enough
to behold You.

I need more.
I need You.

Maranatha--
Come Lord Jesus.
The Spirit and the Bride say “Come.”
Amen.

Practicing Worship

Hear the roar of the multitude around the throne:
Hallelujah! For the Lord our God the Almighty reigns.

All of heaven and earth await this marriage--
a union beyond our grasp.

To see the beauty of a bride made ready for Jesus,
the Bridegroom of matchless worth.

Invitations have been sent.
Blessed are those who come.

Take time to imagine the wonder.

Worship the Bridegroom.

When you are ready,
