Day Five · Lord of Glory

Pause

The story of the exalted Christ
now crescendos in glory,
calling you close.

Take the time to inhabit
this space...
this moment.

Set everything else aside.

Be still in His holy presence.
Open your heart to mystery.

Ponder

Prefer to listen? Take a quiet moment and press play below.

We have stood at the threshold--
listening as heaven declares
His worth.

Now we are drawn closer still,
to a place
where glory is not distant--
but shared.

A conversation
within the heart of God,
before the world began.

Listen closely.

After saying all these things, Jesus looked up to heaven
and said, “Father, the hour has come.
Glorify your Son so he can give glory back to you.
For you have given him authority over everyone.
He gives eternal life to each one you have given him.
And this is the way to have eternal life--
to know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ,
the one you sent to earth.
I brought glory to you here on earth
by completing the work you gave me to do.
Now, Father, bring me into the glory we shared
before the world began...
Father, I want these whom you have given me
to be with me where I am.
Then they can see all the glory you gave me
because you loved me even before the world began!
John 17:1–3, 24

What longings do you sense
from the Lord of glory
in this His final earthly prayer?

Glory--
to behold,
to receive,
to exalt.

What is the promise for you?

Read the passage again, looking for
a word,
an image,
or a phrase
that speaks deeply to your soul.

Consider the heart of the Father,
and the Son--
the glory they have shared,
the fulfillment of the plan.

Reflect on what God has spoken to you.

Pray

The Lord of glory--
magnificence and splendor,
brilliance beyond our grasp,
longs for you to see Him as He is--
to be with Him for eternity.

Jesus,
Your glory radiates
even here and now.

Yet a day is coming
when I will see you as you are--
the beauty of your being
flooding my soul with
light and love and endless joy.

I long for the day
when every eye will see your
matchless worth
and fall before you,
awestruck.

Show me your glory.
Let it fill me
and form me
until at last, I see Your face.

Amen.

Practicing Worship

From before this world began,
we were destined for glory--
that all God is
might be put on display,
so we might see Him,
know Him,
and find in Him
our reason for being.

There is nothing more to say.

Worship Jesus,
Lord of glory.
