Compassion That Enters In
Pause
Breathe deeply for a few moments.
Inhale the tender care Jesus has for you.
Exhale the doubts or uncertainties of the day.
Inhale grace.
Exhale unworthiness.
Jesus is here.
What hinders you from receiving His love?
Share your heart freely.
He knows your need.
He hears your questions.
Just be… here and now… with Him.
(Continue quietly, letting Him welcome you for a few moments.)

Ponder
There’s a well-known story of a small boy, afraid of the darkness, who calls out for help. His father responds from the next room, “You’ll be okay. Remember, Jesus is with you.”
The boy quickly replies, “But Daddy, I need someone with skin on.”
Jesus offers us this skin-on kind of compassion. He does not stay at a distance. He comes close. He enters our fear and our pain, not with answers, but with presence. In His nearness, our tears are met, our fears are steadied, and our weary souls find rest.
Read Luke 7:12–15 slowly.
A funeral procession was coming out as he approached the village gate. The young man who had died was a widow’s only son, and a large crowd from the village was with her. When the Lord saw her, his heart overflowed with compassion. “Don’t cry!” he said. Then he walked over to the coffin and touched it, and the bearers stopped. “Young man,” he said, “I tell you, get up.” Then the dead boy sat up and began to talk! And Jesus gave him back to his mother.
Read the passage again—out loud if possible.
As you sit with these words, notice what draws your attention.
Do not rush to understand or explain.
Gently ponder:
- What do you notice about the heart of Jesus toward us here?
- What feels most personal or tender today?
- Where do you sense invitation rather than demand?
Allow a word, phrase, or image to linger.
If you have time, jot down any thoughts that come to mind.
Pray
Jesus,
When darkness threatens,
I need Your touch.
Your nearness is my hope,
Your gentleness my strength,
Your compassion my comfort.
Let me experience the wonder
of Your presence.
Let it lift my eyes, my heart
to know I am loved.
(Sit quietly. Wait. Let Christ’s compassion come.)
Practice
As you move into the day ahead,
carry one word or phrase from this passage with you.
You might return to it
when struggles come,
and tears near the surface,
or weariness bows your head.
Let it remind you that Jesus comes close
to feel your pain,
to tend your heart,
and lift your head.
Learning from Jesus is compassion that enters into our struggle.
When you are ready, you may continue this journey.
