Compassion That Sees
Pause
Slow your breathing and your thoughts.
Let them quietly fade into the background.
See your heart opening like a flower to the presence of Christ.
Bask in the warmth of His grace.
Thank Him for being here today… and always.

Ponder
A question—rather than an answer—offered in the face of our need changes things. It opens a doorway into our heart—one we may not have realized we’d closed. We feel seen. Our hearts are more tender, our minds more open.
Jesus was a master at asking questions. Curious to the core, He seemed to relish just listening to those in His sphere. When they came in need—hurting, wounded, sick in soul or body—He was never rushed. With a simple question, He opened up space for them to feel seen and known.
Read Matthew 20:31–34 slowly and thoughtfully.
Two blind men were sitting beside the road. When they heard that Jesus was coming that way, they began shouting, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!” “Be quiet!” the crowd yelled at them. But they only shouted louder, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!” When Jesus heard them, he stopped and called, “What do you want me to do for you?” “Lord,” they said, “we want to see!” Jesus felt sorry for them and touched their eyes. Instantly they could see! Then they followed him.
If you have time, read the verses again aloud (or even as a whisper).
Allow a word, phrase, or image to linger.
As you sit with this, notice what draws your attention.
Do not rush to understand or explain.
Gently ponder:
- What do you notice about Jesus’ heart in these words?
- What feels most personal or tender toward you today?
- Where do you sense invitation rather than demand?
If you have time, write a few thoughts about your word, phrase, or image.
Pray
Jesus,
So often I am not in touch
with my own need.
I feel vulnerable in the empty spaces,
in the painful moments.
I want to hear Your voice--
to know You listen with compassion to my concerns and complaints,
asking the questions that make me feel seen.
I wait before You now,
intrigued by Your curiosity,
welcoming Your compassion.
(Sit quietly. Listen. Receive.)
Practice
As you move into the day ahead,
carry one word or phrase from this passage with you.
You might return to it
when you are lost in busyness,
hidden to the world around,
or as you prepare for tomorrow.
Let it gently remind you
that Jesus draws near to listen
and to care.
Learning from Jesus is receiving His curious compassion.
When you are ready, you may continue this journey.
