LEARNING HIS HEART

A CONTEMPLATIVE
JOURNEY WITH JESUS

Day Five· Learning His Gentle Purpose

Pause

Allow yourself time to settle into stillness.
Let the cares of today rest in the hands of Jesus.
Breathe in His peace.

Jesus loves to hold you in gentleness.
He delights to shine tenderly through you.
Welcome Him into this time.

(Rest quietly in His love for a few moments.)

Ponder

It’s hard to imagine a quality more needed in our troubled world than the gentleness of Jesus.
As we experience His tender touch on our own lives, we carry His presence, like a soothing ointment, wherever we go.
Our lives touch other people—not only by the things we do, but by who we are.

Grace is given freely.
Patience replaces frustration.
Acceptance overcomes judgment.
Peace binds us together.

Therefore I, a prisoner for serving the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of your calling,
for you have been called by God.
Always be humble and GENTLE.
Be patient with each other,
making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love.
Make every effort to keep yourselves united in the Spirit,
binding yourselves together with peace.

Read the passage again—out loud if possible.

As you sit with these words, notice what draws your attention.
Do not rush to understand or explain.

Gently ponder:

  • What do you notice about the heart of Jesus here?
  • What feels most personal or tender today?
  • Where do you sense invitation rather than demand?

Allow a word, phrase, or image to linger.

Pray

Jesus,
You are gentle with me.
You are humble in heart.
I love sitting at your feet and learning gentleness.

As I lift my eyes to the world around me, let the things I’ve experienced shape how I move and respond.
May Your tender care flow through me
to each person I meet, and in every place I go.

Let my life be a vessel, ever carrying your gracious gentleness.

(Sit quietly. Receive. Prepare to be poured out.)

Practice

As you move into the day ahead,
carry one word or phrase from this passage with you.
You might return to it
when you feel impatient,
rushed,
or out of sorts with your people.

Open your heart to grace,
and go gently into the world.

Learning from Jesus is letting His gentleness flow through you.
