LEARNING HIS HEART

A CONTEMPLATIVE JOURNEY WITH JESUS
Week Three · Day One

His Calming Presence

A simple space to breathe, listen, and receive Christ’s peace.

Pause

Sit in stillness for a few minutes. Rest your mind in Jesus’ presence.
Look around you. Name something you are grateful for.
Look within yourself. Name something you are grateful for.

Hold space for Christ’s peace within and without.
Whisper softly: Thank you for Your presence Jesus. I am here.

(If helpful, sit quietly for a few moments before continuing.)

Ponder

If there were one word to describe the unease that seems to have settled over our culture, it would be anxiety. From panic attacks to anxiety disorders to nagging worry, a restless angst seems to permeate our moments and days.

Jesus, whose birth came with the promise of “peace on earth” speaks gently into our fretting souls, reminding us that our needs are front and center in His heart. Learning from Jesus means coming to Him as we are--to experience this tender truth...
and it in, find peace.

Read Matthew 6:31–34 below slowly and thoughtfully.

So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.

If you have time, read the verses again aloud (or even as a whisper).

Allow a word, phrase, or image to linger.
As you sit with this, notice what draws your attention.
Do not rush to understand or explain.

Gently ponder:

  • What do you notice about Jesus’ heart in these words?
  • What feels most personal or tender toward you today?
  • Where do you sense invitation rather than demand?

If you have time, write a few thoughts about your word, phrase, or image.

Pray

Jesus,
I come with my worry, my fretting, my fears.
I need Your peace.

I breathe in the comfort of Your care…
and breathe out my doubts.
I breathe in the promise of Your peace…
and breathe out my uncertainties.

Teach me how to rest in who You are.
Calm my anxious heart.

(Sit quietly. Listen. Receive.)

Practice

As you move into the day ahead,
carry one word or phrase from this passage with you.

You might return to it
when the worry comes unbidden,
when today’s troubles loom large,
or as you care for others’ needs.

Let it gently remind you
that learning from Jesus means
resting in His promise of peace.

Learning from Jesus means He calms your anxious heart.
