LEARNING HIS HEART

A CONTEMPLATIVE JOURNEY WITH JESUS
Week Three · Day Three

A Peace Like No Other

Pause

Take a few minutes to relax.
Breathe deeply as you work your way from head to feet,
bringing quiet to every part of your body.
When you finish, sit in stillness for a moment.

Peace is so often hard to find,
in the pressures that assail,
and the fears that trouble.

Jesus meets you here.
His commitment is eternal.
His heart is love.
His presence is peace.

(Continue with slow, quiet breaths as you receive Him.)

Ponder

With five young children, my dad often worked two or three jobs just to feed and clothe our family. One day I overheard him and my mom having an intense conversation about making ends meet, and I took the burden on my small shoulders. Though our table was always plentiful, I developed a scarcity mentality, always fearing there might not be enough. In time, a silent mantra of “you are not enough” began to play in my heart and mind.

The peace the world promises is rooted in scarcity—pressure to do enough, have enough, and be enough. The fight to become ourselves is fraught with shame. We never feel we’ve arrived. Jesus speaks a different kind of peace. He whispers: You have enough… You are enough… because I am enough. No scarcity, just sufficiency.

Read John 14:27–29 slowly.

“I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid. Remember what I told you: I am going away, but I will come back to you again. If you really loved me, you would be happy that I am going to the Father, who is greater than I am. I have told you these things before they happen so that when they do happen, you will believe.”

Read the passage again—out loud if possible.

As you sit with these words, notice what draws your attention.
Do not rush to understand or explain.

Gently ponder:

  • What do you notice about the heart of Jesus here?
  • What feels most personal or tender today?
  • Where do you sense invitation rather than demand?

Allow a word, phrase, or image to linger. If you have time, write a sentence or two of what you are sitting with.

Pray

Jesus,
You come with peace,
a different kind of peace.

I come in scarcity—I am not enough.
You come in generosity
to soothe my troubled mind,
and comfort my fearful soul.

Let me receive Your promise of peace,
the kind only Your presence can provide.
You are enough.

(Sit quietly. Wait for Jesus’ voice of peace. Take it in.)

Practice

As you move into the day ahead,
carry one word or phrase from this passage with you.

You might return to it
as decisions pile up,
or work runs late,
or fearful inadequacy flaunts its face.

Let it remind you that the peace the world promises,
will never sustain.

Learning from Jesus is living out of generous peace.
