Day Four· The Voice that Sustains
Pause
Take a few deep breaths.
Relax your body—your neck, your shoulders,
your back.
Sit comfortably—feet resting on the floor, open hands on your lap.
The noise of this world wants to pull you away.
With each tug you feel, turn gently back to Jesus.
He is here. Ready to speak. Offer your listening soul.
(Continue quietly, resting in His love for a few moments.)
Ponder
Prefer to listen? Take a quiet moment and press play below.
I recently took up bread-making and love every part of the process-feeding the starter, mixing in flour, dipping my hands in the mix, watching it rise. And oh, the smell when it comes out of the oven. There are no words.
I’m not alone—in fact bread-making has become wildly popular. This is not surprising. From ancient flatbreads to sophisticated sourdough loaves, bread has stood throughout history as a symbol of sustenance, a cornerstone of cultural connection.
This gives profound meaning to Jesus’ reminder that bread alone cannot sustain us, that we cannot really live without the words from His mouth.
Learning from Jesus is savoring the Bread of Life.
Read Matthew 4:18-21 and John 6:35 slowly and quietly.
Read the passage again—out loud if possible.
As you sit with these words, notice what draws your attention.
Do not rush to understand or explain.
Gently ponder:
- What do you notice about the heart of God here?
- What feels most personal or tender today?
- Where do you sense invitation rather than demand?
Allow a word, phrase, or image to linger.
If you have time, jot down any thoughts that come to mind.
Pray
Jesus,
You are the Bread of Life.
You know my hunger,
You feed my soul.
When other voices crowd Yours out,
Hold me close until I hear Your gentle whisper.
Sustain me with a word, and I will live.
(Sit quietly. Listen. Remain.)
Practice
As you move into the day ahead,
carry one word or phrase from this passage with you.
You might return to it
when other voices crowd your mind.
When quiet feels hard to find.
Or you feel hunger pangs.
Let it remind you that learning from Jesus
means savoring each word He speaks,
And being sustained by it.
Learning from Jesus is being sustained by His voice.
